My recent vacation was a “staycation.” When our daughter and son-in-law visit Grand Junction we like to hit the road for food and fun, always stopping at local places (sorry, chain stores).
It’s possible to live in the Valley a long time and still miss some great spots. We had never been to Palisade Pies, but we’ll be back. Let me suggest their chocolate cream. Then there’s Red Fox Cellars for some top-notch wines. Our golden retriever was welcome at both places.
My son-in-law Joel is a writer and book collector, so stops at Grand Valley Books and Twice Upon A Time were mandatory.
We hit Fruita one day for pizza at Hot Tomato and supplies for dinner at Skip’s Farm To Market. Back to Grand Junction that night for some drive-through desserts at Graff Dairy.
Most every afternoon we took a break at Kiln Coffee Bar on Main Street, where they seem to know every customer by name.
